Assam in Export Preparedness Index (EPI) 2024

Export preparedness in the Northeast reflects a mixed but evolving trajectory. The Export Preparedness Index 2024 places Nagaland, Tripura and Assam among the leading small states and UTs, indicating comparatively stronger export ecosystems built on better policy support, institutional coordination and basic trade infrastructure. The state exported around ₹3,700 crore in FY 2024. Tea remains Assam’s largest export and contributes more than 50% of merchandise exports.

Despite this progress, structural constraints persist across the region. Weak multimodal connectivity, limited value addition, narrow export baskets and low integration with global value chains continue to suppress export volumes. Dependence on primary commodities also exposes the region to price and climate-related risks, limiting export resilience.
