Delhi Govt. Launches ‘Saheli Card’ for Free Bus Travel

“Saheli Smart Card” New for Free Delhi Transportation of Women and Transgenders has been announced by Delhi Transport Corporation. The “Saheli Smart Card” will replace the “Pink Ticket” scheme. The smart card will only be for people who live in Delhi and the person must have a Delhi address in theirAadhaar card. This change is intended to reduce misuse and provide an enhanced free travel system.
Free Travel ONLY for Delhi Residents
Any woman, regardless of her place of residence, could receive free travel on Delhi city buses with the use of a pink ticket. However, the new “Saheli Smart Card” will only be available to people of Delhi who have a verifiable Delhi address and Aadhaar card. The Smart Card will have a name and photo on it, and people can apply online from a link on DTC’s website. Cards will be sent by post after approval.
Why the change was necessary
Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said that fake pink tickets were being produced, and a number of them were fraudulently obtaining money from government. He said, “We want a clean and fair system. If free rides are to be made available, it should be for the people who legitimately use them.” The Saheli Card will enable DTC to have a trail of actual users, reduced for now p… fraud, and the Saheli Card will add a level of transperency and accountability.”
Smart, Modern Digital Travel
The Saheli Card is part of a wider initiative to modernize and digitize public transport in Delhi. It will function as a smart card, following the ropes of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) system, applicable not only within DTC buses but with the Delhi Metro, feeder buses, parking and even small payments in shops.
DTC will also implement over 12,000 card readers, QR-code ticketing and apps that allow users to recharge cards, plan trips and check balance. There will also be links to apps developed with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
More Card Options for All
In addition to the Saheli Card, DTC will also launch two additional cards:
• Zero KYC Card – Available without ID proof and the fastest option for users with cross-network travel.
• Full KYC Card – A card issued by banks after a full verification of ID proof with added safety features.
These will cater to people who do not wish to use or have time to wait for the Saheli Card but want to enjoy quick, cashless travel facilities.
