Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy was established in the year 2016 under Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014 with the support of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. The institute is also known as IIPE. IIPE works under the mentorship and guidance of dynamic leaders of Petroleum & Chemical Industries and IIT Kharagpur.
