PM Modi Inaugurates ₹19,650 Cr Navi Mumbai Airport
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated Phase One of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA)—a groundbreaking ₹19,650 crore infrastructure project that’s set to revolutionize aviation and urban mobility in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. With commercial operations slated to start by December 2025, Mumbai will join the ranks of global cities like New York, London, and Tokyo, boasting more than one international airport.

The newly opened airport embodies the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and beautifully merges modern design with cultural significance. Here are some key features:
• Cost: ₹19,650 crore
• Design: A stunning lotus-shaped terminal that pays homage to Indian heritage
• Timeline: Phase One is complete, with commercial operations expected by December 2025
• Connectivity: Aims to enhance trade, tourism, and logistics in western India
• Inclusivity: Thoughtfully designed with accessibility and eco-sustainability in mind
The newly inaugurated airport reflects the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and blends modern design with cultural symbolism.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated several other infrastructure projects, including the launch of Phase 2B of the Mumbai Metro Line 3, which stretches from Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli all the way to Cuffe Parade. He also introduced the Mumbai One App, marking India’s first integrated mobility platform that brings together eleven public transport operators. Additionally, he unveiled the Short-Term Employability Programme, or STEP, which aims to provide 2,500 new training batches focused on cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, Electric Vehicles, solar energy, and additive manufacturing.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the Navi Mumbai International Airport, the newly inaugurated metro, and the Mumbai One app will collectively revolutionize travel and connectivity in Mumbai, representing a modern, confident, and developed India.
