PM Modi Launches ₹5,100 Crore Infrastructure Projects in Arunachal Pradesh

In a bold move aimed at boosting regional development and promoting clean energy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled infrastructure projects totaling over ₹5,100 crore in Arunachal Pradesh on September 22, 2025. Addressing the crowd from Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar, he emphasized the government’s dedication to transforming the Northeast into a key hub for connectivity, energy, and economic growth. The initiatives encompass significant hydropower projects, road improvements, upgrades to health and fire safety services, and a new convention center in Tawang, all of which will enhance Arunachal Pradesh’s contribution to India’s growth narrative, particularly in the clean energy arena.

Key Projects Unveiled

• Hydropower: Two major hydropower projects, the Heo Hydro Electric Project (240 MW) and the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (186 MW), were initiated. Located in the Siyom sub-basin, these projects are worth over ₹3,700 crore and aim to harness Arunachal Pradesh’s significant hydroelectric potential to generate clean energy and provide affordable electricity.
• Tourism and Culture: A state-of-the-art convention center in Tawang, with a capacity for over 1,500 delegates, will be built to international standards. This facility is designed to promote tourism and cultural events.
• Connectivity and Healthcare: Other projects, valued at over ₹1,290 crore, include:
  • Road construction to improve connectivity, especially to remote border villages.
  • A State Cancer Institute in Itanagar.
  • New fire stations and upgrades to the 2nd Armed Police Battalion at Aalo.
  • The construction of working women’s hostels across 26 districts.
  • Development of residential buildings for ministerial staff in various districts.
