Rajbhasha Shield for NBQ Workshop — and a Push for Modernisation

The Carriage & Wagon Workshop at New Bongaigaon (NBQ) has been awarded the Rajbhasha Shield along with a cash prize of ₹14,000 by the Ministry of Railways for exemplary promotion of Hindi in 2024.

Alongside this recognition, the Northeast Frontier Railway reported steady progress in infrastructure upgrades and maintenance efficiency at the NBQ Workshop through December 2025, reflecting a broader drive toward modern, reliable rolling-stock management.

During the month, the workshop developed an indigenous test bench for DEMU DPC bogies, allowing pre-installation testing of traction motors.

The system includes one-hour run tests, real-time monitoring of vibrations and bearing temperatures, and precise measurements, saving time and manpower.

The workshop also began mid-life rehabilitation (MLR) of 25 LHB coaches. Temporary arrangements using the old Coach Lifting Shop ensured smooth commencement of MLR activities while a proposal for a dedicated MLR shed is under consideration.
