The Union Cabinet approved the Terms of Reference for the 8th Central Pay Commission

On 28 October 2025, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC). Significance

• The Central Pay Commissions are periodically established to review and rationalize the salary structure, retirement benefits, and service conditions of Central Government employees.
• Traditionally, a Pay Commission is set up every ten years, with its recommendations implemented subsequently.
• The 7th Central Pay Commission recommendations were implemented in 2016.
• Following this trend, the 8th CPC’s recommendations are expected to take effect from 1 January 2026.
