Virudhunagar to Become Global Textile Hub Under PM MITRA Scheme

The Government of India has approved a ₹1,900 crore PM MITRA Textile Park in Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu), representing an important milestone in growing India’s footprint in the global textile landscape. The mega park will be over 1,052 acres and have world class amenities like Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) treatment, a 10,000 bed dormitory, and over 1.3 million sq. ft. of immediately available industrial build space. The PM MITRA Textile Park will be positioned for growth in technical textiles, and sustainable apparel manufacturing, and is expected to provide over ₹10,000 crore of investment and over 1 lakh potential jobs by 2026.

The PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Tamil Nadu received its final governmental approval and funding from the Central Government. This is significant because this park will support India’s pursuit of becoming a manufacturing champion, while also establishing Tamil Nadu’s presence in the value-added textile manufacturing sector.

Background

• The Ministry of Textiles launched the PM MITRA scheme to establish seven (7) world class textile parks in India.

• On the basis of prevailing criteria, Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu was selected based on its textile ecosystem potential, connectivity, and proximity to infrastructure.

• The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) is instrumental in facilitating the implementation and promotion process.
