The International Cricket Council (ICC) today (Monday 13 June) announced that Sri Lankan batting star Angelo Mathews and Pakistan\u2019s spin sensation Tuba Hasan have been selected as the ICC Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Players for May 2022. Mathews has surpassed compatriot Asitha Fernando and Bangladeshi Mushfiqur Rahim to win the award, while Tuba Hasan has surpassed his captain Bismah Maroof and Trinity Smith of the jersey. Why this award is given to Angelo Mathews?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mathews was selected the stand-out male player after piling on runs over the course of his side\u2019s impressive ICC World Test Championship series victory against Bangladesh. Mathews becomes the first Sri Lankan player to be named the Player of the Month since its inception in January 2021, scooping the award ahead of fellow nominees Asitha Fernando (Sri Lanka), and Mushfiqur Rahim (Bangladesh).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan\u2019s Tuba Hasan had significant success with the ball during her first international series. Because of this, she was nominated for the ICC Women\u2019s Player of the Month. The 21-year-old leg-spinner took five wickets against Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I series in Pakistan, where she captured the Player of the Series award, taking five wickets at an average of 8.8 and an economy rate of 3.66. In securing this month\u2019s award, Hassan overcomes fellow nominees in compatriot Bismah Maroof, and Jersey\u2019s Trinity Smith.
