Samant Kumar Goel re-appointed as Chief of RAW<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Samant Kumar Goel\u2019s contract as secretary of the intelligence agency\u2019s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) was extended by the Centre on June 24 by another year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is Samant Kumar Goel?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samant Kumar Goel is an IPS officer from the Punjab cadre class of 1984 and will hold the position of agency secretary through June 30, 2023. In June 2019, Samant Kumar Goel succeeded Anil Dhasmana as the Chief of RAW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the RAW:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The RAW is an external intelligence organisation that monitors dangers from abroad. RAW collects secret information about the activities of neighbouring countries. RAW has been placed directly under the Indian Prime Minister\u2019s office. RAW has its own service cadre known as the\u00a0Research and Analysis Service (RAS).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

IRS Officer Nitin Gupta named as the new chairman of CBDT<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The government has appointed Nitin Gupta as Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). A Committee of Secretaries held a meeting on June 25 and selected Gupta, a 1986 batch IRS officer, as the Chairman of the apex body of Income Tax. Gupta, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 1986 batch of the Income Tax cadre, is serving as the Member (investigation) in the Board and is scheduled to retire in September next year.He is currently a Member of CBDT handling the charge of Investigation. Gupta is the first CBDT Member after 3 years who gets the independent charge of Investigation. Last year on August 26, Nitin Gupta was appointed Member CBDT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The post of the CBDT chief was being held in an additional capacity by Board member and 1986-batch IRS officer Sangeeta Singh after J B Mohapatra retired on April 30. The CBDT is headed by a Chairman and can have six members who are in the rank of special secretary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the administrative body for the Income Tax department. There are five members in the Board at present with 1985-batch IRS officer Anuja Sarangi being the senior most. The other members are Pragya Sahay Saksena and Subashree Anantkrishnan, both from the 1987 batch of the IRS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recognition of his outstanding impact on the sport of tennis as a player, promoter, and humanitarian, India\u2019s Vijay Amritraj has been named the 2021 recipient of the Golden Achievement Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Golden Achievement Award is presented annually by the International Tennis Hall of Fame and International Tennis Federation to a person who has made important contributions internationally to tennis in the fields of administration, promotion, or education and has devoted long and outstanding service to the sport. He is first recipient from India and he joins an esteemed list of tennis leaders who have received the honour, including Brian Tobin of Australia, Eiichi Kawatei of Japan, and Peachy Kellmeyer of the United States.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the award:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Golden Achievement Award is selected from a pool of nominations submitted by tennis federations and individuals from the around the world. The annual honouree is selected by the Golden Achievement Award Committee, which is comprised of tennis administrators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam hails\u00a0from Manipur,\u00a0and started cycling at the age of 14. Indian Air Force: Three Su-30MKI aircraft, two C-17 aircraft and 57 IAF personnel including C-17 contingent. A month long event, is a unique exercise with Air assets in a Large Force Engagement environment, simulating various conflict scenarios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aim: Enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries and exchange of best practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Delhi High Court has passed an order, that Narinder Dhruv Batra cannot continue as the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in a contempt proceeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While hearing a contempt proceeding filed on behalf of former Olympian Aslam Sher Khan against Batra, IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta and Sports Secretary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court has also\u00a0appointed Anil Khanna as acting president. Batra was become an IOC member in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A noted lyricist, author and journalist, Chowalloor Krishnankutty has passed away at the age of 86. Krishnankutty has penned over 3000 devotional songs and authored more than 200 books. He was retired from the Malayala Manorama daily as an Assistant Editor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Awards:\u00a0Kerala Sahithya Academy Award for satire, Poonthanam Jnanapana and Revathy Pattathanam Awards among others. He was also worked as the Vice-Chairman of the Kerala Kalamandalam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
