India-born Gita Gopinath became the second Indian and the first woman to feature on the IMF’s ‘wall of former chief economists’ (International Monetary Fund). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raghuram Rajan served as the IMF’s Chief Economist and Director of Research from 2003 to 2006 and was the first Indian to earn the honor. Gopinath was appointed as IMF Chief Economist in October 2018 and was later promoted as the IMF\u2019s First Deputy Managing Director in December last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About Gita Gopinath:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Gopinath had served as the first female chief economist<\/strong> of the Washington-based global lender for three years. Gopinath\u2019s research has been published in many top economics journals. Prior to her appointment as IMF Chief<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Economist, she was the John Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and Economics in the economics department of Harvard University.
