He is a former member of Colombia’s M-19 guerrilla group, who won the presidential election in June 2022 by beating conservative party candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also promised to implement outstanding provisions of the 2016 peace agreement that saw the rebel FARC movement lay down arms after nearly six decades of civil conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
