The day was established in 2010 by the United Nations Statistical Commission to put a spotlight on the importance of statistics and the significance of academic research on the development of civil society and business. The United Nations Statistical Commission has been at the forefront of advocating for the use of statistics to track progress towards the&nbsp;Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<strong>.<\/strong>&nbsp;Good data and statistics are essential for effective planning, monitoring and evaluation of progress towards the SDGs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/category\/daily-quiz\/daily-quiz-october-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>October 2022 Current Affairs Quiz<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>World Statistics Day 2022: Theme<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theme of Statistics Day, 2022 is \u201c<strong>Data for Sustainable Development\u201d.<\/strong>&nbsp;On this occasion, MoSPI also recognizes the outstanding contribution through high-quality research in the field of applied and theoretical statistics benefiting the official statistical system through awards instituted for this purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>History of World Statistics Day:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;United Nations Statistical Commission&nbsp;proposed celebrating&nbsp;20 October 2010 as World Statistics Day.&nbsp;The General Assembly adopted on 3 June 2010 resolution 64\/267, which officially designated&nbsp;20 October 2010&nbsp;as the first-ever World Statistics Day under the general theme \u201cCelebrating the many achievements of official statistics.
