On Saturday, he addressed the ASEAN-India summit. Initially, the collaborative S&amp;T projects and activities between India and ASEAN were supported through<strong>&nbsp;ASEAN India Fund (AIF)<\/strong>&nbsp;but in 2008, a dedicated&nbsp;<strong>ASEAN India S&amp;T Development Fund (AISTDF)<\/strong>&nbsp;with an equivalent amount of&nbsp;<strong>USD 1 million<\/strong>&nbsp;was established jointly by the Ministry of External Affairs and Department of Science and Technology (DST) to support R&amp;D (Research and Development ) projects and associated project development activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AISTDF was enhanced to an equivalent amount of USD 5 million through an announcement by the&nbsp;<strong>Prime Minister of India<\/strong>&nbsp;on the sidelines of the&nbsp;<strong>ASEAN-India Summit in Malaysia<\/strong>&nbsp;in November 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About ASEAN:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The founding members of ASEAN\u2014Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand\u2014signed the ASEAN Declaration (also known as the Bangkok Declaration) on August 8, 1967, officially establishing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). 10 member countries&nbsp;of ASEAN: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The motto of ASEAN&nbsp;is&nbsp;\u201cOne Vision, One Identity, One Community\u201d. 8th&nbsp;August is observed as&nbsp;ASEAN Day. <strong>ASEAN Secretariat<\/strong>&nbsp;is situated in Jakarta, Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ASEAN-India Relations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India-ASEAN relations can be traced to historical and cultural relations. Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam spread from India to the region and the imprint of this shared cultural heritage is also seen in art forms and architecture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Despite this after independence India did not have good relations with ASEAN because , ASEAN was under the US camp during the Cold War period&nbsp;( Ideological differences). After the end of Cold War,India \u2013 ASEAN relations have evolved from just&nbsp;economic&nbsp; ties to strategic&nbsp; heights owing to common threats and aspirations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Timeline:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1992<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India became ASEAN\u2019s sectoral dialogue partner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1995<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India became full dialogue partner of&nbsp; ASEAN<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1996<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>India<\/strong>&nbsp;became a member of<strong>&nbsp;ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) ,a&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;key forum for security dialogue in Asia which provides a setting in which members can discuss current regional security issues and develop cooperative measures to enhance peace and security in the region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;2002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India and ASEAN begin to hold annual summit level meetings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2009<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>India- ASEAN&nbsp;<\/strong>Free trade Agreement in Goods was concluded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2012<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>India \u2013 ASEAN Strategic Partnership<\/strong>&nbsp;was concluded<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2014<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>India \u2013 ASEAN Free Trade Agreement&nbsp; in Services and Investment was concluded<\/strong>. This was aimed to facilitate movement of manpower and investments between India and ASEAN.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India ASEAN celebrated<strong>&nbsp;25 years of their relationship<\/strong>&nbsp;by holding a commemorative Summit.
