13th National Voters\u2019 Day<\/strong>: The 13th National Voters’ Day will be observed by the Indian Election Commission on January 25, 2023. To commemorate the founding day of the Election Commission of India, this day is observed on January 25. Voters\u2019 day is dedicated to raising young people\u2019s awareness of the importance of voting in their country. Every year, a different theme is used to celebrate it. The theme for this year\u2019s NVD, \u2018Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure\u2019 is dedicated to voters which conveys individual\u2019s feeling and aspiration towards participation in the electoral process through power of their vote. The logo is designed to showcase festivity and inclusivity of the electoral process. Ashoka Chakra in the background represents the largest democracy of the world, whereas the inked finger represents participation of each and every voter of the country. The tick in the logo represents the voter making an informed choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Significance of National Voters Day 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voting is the largest forum for direct people participation. A higher voter turnout means that more people hold elected officials accountable and that more people have a say in who comes to power. It is important for marginalised communities, especially those who do not have many avenues to lobby for their interests, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People\u2019s voting choices determine who comes to power at the local, regional, or national level. This means that in the coming years, the nation’s direction will be decided by the people, ideologies, and policies that receive the most votes. Voting, thus, is prominent in determining the course of people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History of National Voters Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year on January 25 since 2011, National Voters’ Day has been observed all over the nation to commemorate the founding date of the Election Commission of India, which was January 25, 1950. The main purpose of the NVD celebration is to create electoral awareness amongst citizens and encourage them to participate in the electoral process. The National Voters’ Day, which honours the nation’s voters, is also used to encourage voter registration, particularly among newly eligible young people. New voters are felicitated and handed over their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) in the NVD functions held across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Election Commission of India (ECI)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
