In 2023, United Nations Holocaust memory and education are guided by the theme “Home and Belonging.” The theme highlights the humanity of the Holocaust victims and survivors, who had their home and sense of belonging ripped from them by the perpetrators of the Holocaust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day is important as it makes the world remember the killing of six million Jews, two-thirds of Europe\u2019s Jewish population, and millions of others by the Nazi forces and their collaborators. The day is commemorated to encourage the development of educational programmes about Holocaust history to help prevent future acts of genocide. The day also encourages member nations of the UN to preserve sites that were used by the Nazis during the \u201cFinal Solution,\u201d which include killing centers, concentration camps, and prisons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During 1933\u20131945, Hitler\u2019s German Nazi administration killed many ethnic groups, notably European Jews, whom he regarded as an inferior race. It is said that Jewish men, women, and children at the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland faced the most heinous atrocities. The UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 60\/7 not only to commemorate the \u201cInternational Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust,\u201d but to reject any form of Holocaust denial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights supports the resolution to condemn all forms of \u201creligious intolerance, incitement, harassment, or violence against persons or communities based on ethnic origin or religious belief\u201d across the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Holocaust Remembrance Days have been established in many of the participating nations. The Warsaw ghetto revolt took place on April 19, which Argentina designated as National Day for Cultural Diversity. As of April 16, Hungary will observe National Holocaust Remembrance Day.  Whereas the US Days of Remembrance correspond to Yom Ha-Shoah, Israel\u2019s annual Holocaust Remembrance Day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
