The Launch Ceremony, presided over by<strong>&nbsp;Vice Admiral Sandeep Naithani<\/strong>, Chief of Materiel, showcased the culmination of efforts towards indigenous shipbuilding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Significance of Amini<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In adherence to maritime traditions,<strong>&nbsp;Mrs. Manju Naithani<\/strong>&nbsp;played a crucial role in launching the ship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The vessel was named \u2018Amini\u2019 to underscore the strategic maritime importance attributed to the island of<strong>&nbsp;Amini in Lakshadweep<\/strong>, positioned about 400 kilometers west of&nbsp;<strong>Kochi.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Project Background<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The contract for constructing&nbsp;<strong>eight ASW SWC ships<\/strong>&nbsp;was formalized between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders &amp; Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, on April 29, 2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This innovative build strategy involve<strong>s four ships being constructed at GRSE, Kolkata<\/strong>, while the remaining four are subcontracted to M\/s L&amp;T Shipbuilding, Kattupalli, specifically for&nbsp;<strong>hull and part outfitting.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Purpose and Capabilities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Belonging to the Arnala class of ships, these vessels are designed to&nbsp;<strong>replace the existing Abhay class ASW Corvettes<\/strong>&nbsp;of the Indian Navy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their primary functions include anti-submarine operations in coastal waters, as well as engaging in Low Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO) and Mine Laying Operations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With a length of<strong>&nbsp;77 meters<\/strong>, a displacement of<strong>&nbsp;900 tons<\/strong>, and a maximum speed of 25 knots, the ASW SWC ships boast an impressive endurance of approximately<strong>&nbsp;1800 nautical miles.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Launch Achievements<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emphasizing India\u2019s progress in indigenous shipbuilding, the launch of the<strong>&nbsp;third ship<\/strong>&nbsp;of the same class took place on June 13, 2023, at M\/s L&amp;T, Kattupalli.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The successful launch of four ships within a year exemplifies India\u2019s commitment to the vision of<strong>&nbsp;AatmaNirbhar Bharat,<\/strong>&nbsp;or self-reliant India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Future Deliveries<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The initial ship of the ASW SWC project is slated for delivery in&nbsp;<strong>early 2024,<\/strong>&nbsp;marking a crucial step in fortifying India\u2019s maritime defense capabilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The ASW SWC ships are expected to feature&nbsp;<strong>over 80% indigenous content<\/strong>, reflecting a substantial stride towards promoting large-scale defense production executed by Indian manufacturing units.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This initiative not only enhances national capabilities but also contributes to significant&nbsp;<strong>employment generation<\/strong>&nbsp;within the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 16th November 2023, a significant milestone in India\u2019s naval capabilities was achieved as \u2018Amini,\u2019 the&nbsp;fourth&nbsp;of the&nbsp;Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) Project, was successfully launched at M\/s L&amp;T Shipbuilding in&nbsp;Kattupalli.
