{"id":167760,"date":"2024-09-19T13:49:23","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T08:19:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=167760"},"modified":"2024-09-19T13:49:24","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T08:19:24","slug":"isro-gives-details-on-indo-french-trishna-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/isro-gives-details-on-indo-french-trishna-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"ISRO Gives Details On Indo-French TRISHNA Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Space agency ISRO<\/strong>&nbsp;has announced a<strong>&nbsp;joint Indo-French infrared earth observation satellite mission<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>TRISHNA (Thermal Infra-Red Imaging Satellite for High-Resolution Natural Resource Assessment)<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>to monitor surface temperature and water management around the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About This Project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The project, which comes when both&nbsp;<strong>India and Europe<\/strong>&nbsp;have been assailed by&nbsp;<strong>extreme heat,<\/strong>&nbsp;will provide<strong>&nbsp;data points for climate impacts<\/strong>&nbsp;on earth through&nbsp;<strong>evapotranspiration monitoring,<\/strong>&nbsp;which measures the evaporation of water from land as well as release from plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The mission will study\u00a0<strong>water presence and concentrations<\/strong>, as well as dynamics including melting glaciers, in various parts of the biosphere, quantifying water being used on land and how. ISRO said for heat, the\u00a0<strong>satellite will monitor thermal anomalies and spikes, emission of heat from land, surface energy, urban heat islands, and other global parametres.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the process, the satellite will also study\u00a0<strong>aerosols, water vapour, and clouds<\/strong>\u00a0in the atmosphere around the world.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is currently tentatively set to\u00a0<strong>launch in 2025<\/strong>\u00a0with an\u00a0<strong>expected lifespan of 5 years<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Payloads and parameters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The satellite will\u00a0<strong>carry two primary payloads<\/strong>. The\u00a0<strong>Thermal Infra-Red (TIR) payload<\/strong>\u00a0will be provided by the\u00a0<strong>French space agency CNES,<\/strong>\u00a0and will be a\u00a0<strong>four channel long-wavelength infrared imaging sensor<\/strong>\u00a0that will study high-resolution surface temperature. It will also map the amounts of\u00a0<strong>heat radiated back from land in different regions.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Visible Near Infrared-Red Short Wave Infrared-Red (VNIR-SWIR)<\/strong>\u00a0payload is being\u00a0<strong>developed by ISRO<\/strong>, and will map over seven bands the reflectivity or\u00a0<strong>albedo of earth\u2019s surface.<\/strong>\u00a0This will measure the amount of heat reflecting off the earth\u2019s surface, and will also calculate\u00a0<strong>various biophysical and radiation budget variables.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Expected Benefits of This Mission<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The mission is expected to boost\u00a0<strong>remote sensing technology,<\/strong>\u00a0which is monitoring\u00a0<strong>earth from a distance up in the orbit<\/strong>. The satellite and the data it will provide is made more crucial as extreme temperatures and weather events take hold of the globe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ISRO said the mission would address<strong>\u00a0critical water and food security issues<\/strong>\u00a0by providing essential data that can in turn be used for newer sustainable policies in water, among watershed managers,\u00a0<strong>agro-industries<\/strong>, and the farming community in India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The infrared heat imaging in the satellite is also of quite high resolution, and the satellite has a\u00a0<strong>\u201chigh-repeat\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0imaging capability (presumably to image the same area multiple times), which would help in improving understanding of earth\u2019s natural processes to aid global climate change mitigation efforts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ISRO also said the\u00a0<strong>TRISHNA mission<\/strong>\u00a0will address\u00a0<strong>crucial water and food security challenges<\/strong>, focusing on\u00a0<strong>anthropogenic or human-induced impacts of climate change.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Space agency ISRO&nbsp;has announced a&nbsp;joint Indo-French infrared earth observation satellite mission,&nbsp;TRISHNA (Thermal Infra-Red Imaging Satellite for High-Resolution Natural Resource Assessment),&nbsp;to monitor surface temperature and water management around the world.
