Jaishankar<\/strong>&nbsp;participated in the<strong>&nbsp;first-ever Joint Ministerial Meeting of the L.69 and C-10 groupings of nations<\/strong>&nbsp;on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remarks by Jaishankar<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First ever summit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encouraged by the first-ever Joint Ministerial Meeting of L.69 and C-10 groupings of nations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Need of reform at UNSC<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The pressing need of comprehensive reform of UNSC (United Nations Security Council) membership in both permanent and non-permanent categories.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Negotiation Process<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Called for\u00a0<strong>Text-Based Negotiations<\/strong>\u00a0within the Intergovernmental Negotiations (IGN) process, aiming for\u00a0<strong>concrete results within a fixed timeframe.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Greater Participation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The necessity of greater representation of the\u00a0<strong>Global South, particularly underrepresented regions like Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America,<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>Caribbean<\/strong>, in both the permanent and non-permanent categories.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Support<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The ministers expressed their\u00a0<strong>backing for continued dialogue<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0<strong>representation of cross-regional groups, including Small Island Developing States (SIDS).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>About C10<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Committee of Ten (C10) is a\u00a0<strong>group of African countries that is part of the African Union (AU).\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government (C10), dedicated to advancing Education, Science, and Technology,\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C10 plays a crucial role in promoting education, science, technology, and innovation as key elements in achieving the<strong>\u00a0vision of \u201cthe Africa We Want,<\/strong>\u201d as outlined in\u00a0<strong>Agenda 2063.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>What is L69?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It consists of<strong>\u00a032 developing nations (including India) from Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific (Small Island Developing States).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It firmly<strong>\u00a0stands for expansion in both the permanent and non-permanent categories of membership of UNSC\u00a0<\/strong>to better reflect contemporary world realities, and achieve a more accountable, representative, transparent and relevant Security Council.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It derives its name from the\u00a0<strong>draft document number \u201cL.69\u201d<\/strong>, tabled in 2007-08, which led to the initiation of the Intergovernmental Negotiation (IGN) process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>External Affairs Minister S.
