Key findings underline the critical role of Elephant Reserves and offer recommendations for improved conservation efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Total Elephant Population<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Estimated at 5,828, an increase of 109 from 5,719 in 2017.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Estimation Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Conducted from February 20-27, 2024.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Involved 5,743 personnel across 1,536 survey blocks in 43 forest divisions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Population Distribution<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>82% (4,777 elephants) reside in five Elephant Reserves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>68% in protected areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>30.4% in managed forests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1.6% in revenue areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Elephant Density<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chirang-Ripu Reserve recorded the highest density: 79 elephants per 100 sq. km.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dhansiri-Lungding Reserve recorded the lowest density: 6 elephants per 100 sq. km.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Female to Calf Ratio<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>49 calves per 100 adult females, indicating healthy reproduction rates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tusker-to-Makhna Ratio<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improved from 1:2.63 (2017) to 1:1.97 (2024).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Assam\u2019s latest Elephant Population Estimate 2024 reveals an estimated 5,828 elephants, marking a rise of 109 from the previous 2017 count.
