This prestigious award is presented annually to writers from Assam and was initiated by the Williamson Magor Group, a well-known tea company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement of the award was made by Shri B.M. Khaitan, who is the Chairman of the Williamson Magor Group of Industries, during the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Assam Valley School on February 11, 1990, in Harchurah, Sonitpur district, Assam.
