He was a passionate volunteer for the Indian National Congress, dedicating himself to the fight for India&#8217;s independence. Bordoloi was deeply involved in the Non-Cooperation Movement and faced imprisonment in 1922. Gopinath Bordoloi was a prominent Indian politician and a passionate independence activist. He made history as the first Chief Minister of Assam, serving from 1946 until 1950. Bordoloi also chaired the North-East Frontier Tribal Areas and the Assam Excluded and Partially Excluded Areas Sub-Committee. A staunch believer in Gandhian principles, he advocated for non-violence as a means of political change. Due to his unselfish dedication towards Assam and its people, the then Governor of Assam Jayram Das Doulatram conferred him with the title &#8220;Lokpriya&#8221; (loved by all).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Political Career<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Influenced by <strong>Gandhi<\/strong>, <strong>Manickchandra Barua<\/strong>, <strong>Swami Sureshananda<\/strong>, <strong>Tarunram Phukan<\/strong>, <strong>Nabinchandra Bordoloi<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Joined the <strong>Indian National Congress<\/strong> in 1920 at its Calcutta session.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Left legal practice in 1921 to join the <strong>Non-Cooperation Movement<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assistant General Secretary, Congress session, Gauhati (1926).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As a constructive nationalist, Gopinath was naturally concerned about reforming the educational system on national lines. As a reaction to the ill-famous Cunningham Circular of 1929 to suppress political activities in Government educational\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 institutions, there was a movement to boycott Government institutions and start private schools and colleges. Bordoloi was mainly instrumental in establishing the Kamrup Akademy and B.
