Indian-origin Anita Bhatia, a veteran in strategic partnerships,\nresource mobilisation and management, has been appointed by UN\nSecretary-General Antonio Guterres as the Deputy Executive Director in the\nglobal body\u2019s agency focussed on women empowerment and gender equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms. Bhatia holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Calcutta\nUniversity, a Master of Arts in Political Science from Yale University and a\nJuris Doctor in Law from Georgetown University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She has been appointed the Deputy Executive Director of the\u00a0United Nations\u00a0<\/strong>Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) for Resource Management, Sustainability and Partnerships, a statement from the UN Spokesperson\u2019s Office and UN Women said Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She has had a distinguished career at the World Bank Group,\nserving in various senior leadership and management positions, both at the\nheadquarters and in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ms. Bhatia brings extensive experience in the area of strategic\npartnerships, resource mobilisation and management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Veteran Indian diplomat and a gender equality champion Lakshmi\nPuri had previously served as the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations\nand Deputy Executive Director of UN Women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ms. Bhatia served for several years as Director of Global\nPartnerships for the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank\nGroup\u2019s private sector arm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She developed and expanded innovative partnerships with public\nand private sector partners to support IFC strategy in key areas, including\nfragile and conflict-affected States, gender equality, financial inclusion,\nsupport to women-owned businesses and other priorities critical to attainment of\nthe Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition, Ms. Bhatia has served as Director of Development\nPartner Relations for the World Bank, leading efforts to ensure strategic\nalignment between institutional priorities and resource mobilisation across the\ngroup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In various positions, she focused on enhancing sustainability,\ninstitutional effectiveness and impact through strategic partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As Head of IFC\u2019s Latin America Advisory Operations, based in\nLima and La Paz, she successfully grew the Corporation\u2019s reach and impact in\nthe region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As Director of Partnerships and Advisory Operations, she oversaw\nfinancial management, risk management, portfolio management, knowledge\nmanagement and learning for Advisory Services across the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ms. Bhatia has led diverse teams, including as Global Head of\nKnowledge Management, Head of Business Process Improvement and Head of Change\nManagement.
