Patil Inaugurate C-FLOOD, India\u2019s First Unified Flood Forecasting Platform"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In a big move towards modernizing India&#8217;s disaster response mechanism, Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri C. R. Patil, launched C-FLOOD, a Unified Inundation Forecasting System, on July 2, 2025. C-FLOOD was developed together by C-DAC, CWC, and NRSC, and is be a web-based platform, which provides a two-day advance flood forecasts up to the village level, which will support flood preparedness in flood prone areas &amp; mitigate inundation impacts. The C-FLOOD initiative is part of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) and highlights our country&#8217;s complementarity of science and technologies to combat climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The launch of the C-FLOOD platform was formally done by Union Minister Shri C.R. Patil in New Delhi on July 2, 2025. The launch is a significant technological leap in extending India&#8217;s flood forecasting capabilities and subsequently providing early warnings and live inundation mapping. This tool will help National and State Disaster Management Authorities (NDMA &#8211; SDMA) to plan evacuations timely and reduce flood losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goals and Features of C-FLOOD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Provide 2-days advance flood forecasts up to the village level<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Provide forecasts in the form of flood inundation maps and water level predictions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 C-FLOOD is designed to act as a unified platform that integrates multi-agency flood modelling from national and regional agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 C-FLOOD is meant to serve as a decision support system for disaster management authorities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current Coverage<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Mahanadi, Godavari and Tapi river basins<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Additional river systems will be rolled out in future phases<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minister\u2019s Key Directives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Promote the C-FLOOD portal widely to raise public awareness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incorporate forecasts into the National Disaster Management Emergency Response Portal (NDEM).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improve accuracy through satellite validation and ground-truthing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborate closely with all stakeholders for continuous improvements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Significance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enhances community resilience to flood disasters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aids in proactive evacuation planning and infrastructure protection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A step towards digital governance and climate-resilient development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Showcases inter-agency collaboration across scientific and technological institutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a big move towards modernizing India&#8217;s disaster response mechanism, Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri C.
