The Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, had also successfully inaugurated a 50,000-litre UHT Milk Processing Plant, in Jammu, via virtual presence and reaffirmed the commitment of the Centre to the development of livestock and fisheries in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On July 2, 2025, in a function in Srinagar, Union Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh announced several initiatives across J&amp;K in relation to the Fisheries and Livestock sectors, including a proposed \u20b9100 crore Integrated Aqua Park, the designation of Anantnag as a Cold-Water Fisheries Cluster, and the opening of a UHT Milk Plant at Satwari, Jammu, with a capacity of more than 50,000 litre\/day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Highlights<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Proposed \u20b9100-crore Integrated Aqua Park under PMMSY Phase-II being considered for J&amp;K<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Designated Anantnag as a Cold-Water Fisheries Cluster, Kulgam, and Shopian as partner districts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Inauguration of a Milk Plant with a capacity of 50,000 litres\/day at Satwari, Jammu<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 More than \u20b9300 crore allocated to J&amp;K under PMMSY including infrastructure and employment<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Objectives &amp; Aims<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 To develop J&amp;K into a hub of cold-water aquaculture<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 To promote inclusive growth and rural livelihoods<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 To encourage youth involvement in micro and small-scale fishery\/livestock enterprises<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 To strengthen the entire aquaculture value chain from seed production to marketing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sectoral Achievements in J&amp;K<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dairy Sector<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Milk production rose from 19.50 lakh tonnes (2014\u201315) to 28.74 lakh tonnes (2023\u201324) \u2014 a 47% increase<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Per capita milk availability now stands at 413 grams\/day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Women make up over 70% of dairy workforce and 32% of co-op members<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fisheries Sector<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Fish production increased from 20,000 MT (2013\u201314) to 29,000 MT in 2024\u201325<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Trout production increased from 262 MT to 2,380 MT\u2014an increase of 800%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Trout seed production increased from 9 million to 15.2 million<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Carp seed production increased from 4 million to 63.5 million<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Infrastructure and Investment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Import of 13.4 lakh genetically improved eyed ova of Rainbow and Brown Trout (from Denmark)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 More than \u20b9120 crores in private investment for cold-water fisheries through FIDF<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Collaborative support from institutions like NDDB and NFDB<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Government of India is taking a big step forward by looking into a \u20b9100-crore proposal to set up an Integrated Aqua Park as part of Phase-II of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) to help the rural economy and fisheries infrastructure in Jammu &amp; Kashmir (J&amp;K).
