Rangelands support food security, climate regulation, biodiversity, and millions of pastoral communities \u2014 yet they remain among the most neglected ecosystems, increasingly threatened by overuse, land conversion and climate stress. Covering about half the world&#8217;s land,\u00a0<strong>rangelands\u00a0<\/strong>are home to unique biodiversity and pastoral communities whose livelihoods depend on them.\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Pastoralists\u00a0<\/strong>raise animals, contribute to food security, and hold diverse cultural heritage and local and indigenous knowledge, preserving ecosystems across the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Objectives :\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To recognise\u00a0<strong>rangelands and grasslands as vital yet overlooked ecosystems<\/strong>\u00a0in climate action, biodiversity conservation, and food security.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To correct the\u00a0<strong>forest-centric bias<\/strong>\u00a0in global climate and conservation policies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Key Focus Areas<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Integrating grasslands into\u00a0<strong>climate policies, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and land degradation strategies<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthening synergies among the\u00a0<strong>Rio Conventions<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CBD (Convention on Biological Diversity)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UNCCD (Convention to Combat Desertification)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoting\u00a0<strong>indigenous knowledge systems<\/strong>\u00a0and community-led land management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UN has declared 2026 as the International Year for Rangelands and Pastoralists, placing global focus on the ecological and livelihood value of grasslands.
