India, US, Japan, and Australia<\/strong> came together to support ASEAN-led architecture mechanism<\/strong> for a rule-based order to promote the free, open,\nprosperous and inclusive indo-pacific region in a meeting held at Bangkok, Thailand.<\/strong>The meeting at Bangkok is to counter China’s military expansion<\/strong> into the Indo-pacific region.
\n
\nThe Quad Countries:<\/strong>
\nSenior officials of the four countries also\nhighlighted their efforts to maintain universal respect for international law <\/strong>and freedom of navigation and overflight in the region.
\nThey affirmed their strong support for ASEAN\ncentrality and ASEAN-led regional architecture including the Indian Ocean Rim Association and\nPacific Islands Forum.<\/strong>
\nThey underscored their intent to continue close\ncoordination and collaboration in support of sustainable, private sector-led\ndevelopment, maritime security, and good governance. 
\nThe Quad coalition also discussed initiatives\nundertaken by each country to encourage transparent, principles-based\ninvestment in quality infrastructure in accordance with international standards\nand leverage the potential of the private sector.

\nChina’s military expansion:<\/strong>
\nChina has been trying to expand its military presence<\/strong> in the Indo-Pacific<\/strong>, which is a biogeographic\nregion, comprising the Indian Ocean and the western and central Pacific Ocean,\nincluding the South\nChina Sea.<\/strong>
\nChina claims almost all of the South China\nSea. Vietnam, the Philippines,\nMalaysia, Brunei, and Taiwan <\/strong>have\ncounterclaims over the sea.

\nASEAN countries:<\/strong>
\nASEAN is an association of the 10 countries\nwhich include – Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines,\nIndonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. India, US, Japan and\nAustralia, and several other countries are it’s dialogue partners.
