The\u00a0Chhattisgarh\u00a0government has appointed\u00a0Satish Chandra\u00a0Verma\u00a0as the new\u00a0Advocate\u00a0General of the state, replacing Kanak\u00a0Tiwari\u00a0from the post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The appointment was made late Friday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before the order of Verma’s appointment was issued by the government,\u00a0Chief Minister\u00a0Bhupesh Baghel\u00a0had said Friday evening that\u00a0Tiwari\u00a0had resigned from the post and his resignation had been accepted. However,\u00a0Tiwari\u00a0maintained that he had not tendered his resignation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before being appointed as the new AG,\u00a0Verma\u00a0was the Additional\u00a0Advocate\u00a0General of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tiwari had been appointed as the\u00a0Advocate\u00a0General after the then A G\u00a0Jugal Kishore Gilda\u00a0resigned from the post following the formation of\u00a0Congress\u00a0government in the state in December last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“In exercise of the powers conferred by\u00a0Clause\u00a0(1) of Article 165 of the constitution of India, the\u00a0Governor\u00a0of\u00a0Chhattisgarh\u00a0is pleased to appoint\u00a0Satish Chandra\u00a0Verma, Additional Advocate General,\u00a0Chhattisgarh\u00a0as Advocate General, Chhattisgarh, in place of Kanak Tiwari, with immediate effect,” the order issued by state’s Law and Legal Affairs department on Friday night said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Talking to reporters at\u00a0Swami Vivekanand Airport\u00a0here, Baghel had said on Friday evening that Tiwari had tendered his resignation from the post, which had been accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“He (Tiwari) had expressed his inability (to continue with\nthe post). His resignation has been accepted and the new appointment to the\npost has been made,” Baghel had said in response to a query.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Tiwari had claimed that he had not tendered his\nresignation and was not aware of the CM’s statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I firmly say that I haven’t resigned from the post of\nAdvocate General. I haven’t written any resignation letter to the Governor, who\nis my appointing authority,” Tiwari had said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He asked how could his resignation be accepted if he had not\ntendered it in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tiwari’s statement triggered speculations about a rift between the\u00a0state government\u00a0and its highest\u00a0law officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, former\u00a0Chief Minister\u00a0Ajit Jogi-led\u00a0Janata\u00a0Congress\u00a0Chhattisgarh (J) party accused the\u00a0Congress\u00a0government of creating constitutional crises in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The post of advocate general is very important and highly dignified. It does not suit a\u00a0chief minister\u00a0to make a mockery of it. The row over the appointment of AG has led to constitutional crises in the state,” former MLA Amit Jogi, son of Ajit Jogi, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\u00a0Chhattisgarh High Court\u00a0should take its cognisance and investigate the matter, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
