Ahead of International\u00a0Yoga\u00a0Day on June 21, the\u00a0AYUSH Ministry\u00a0has launched a mobile application to enable people to locate\u00a0yoga\u00a0events, centres providing training and instructors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yoga\u00a0locator- a map-based location app – will also enable yoga instructors to register themselves and reach out to a large number of people, a senior\u00a0official\u00a0of the ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“People want to know where they can go for yoga training or\nto pursue a yoga course. This app ‘yoga locator’ will help them locate yoga\ncentres as well as yoga instructors within the preferred radius of their\nvicinity. Their aim is to encourage and help more and more people to adopt\nyoga,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It will be a permanent app, which will give information to people about yoga activities happening in their vicinity throughout the year, the\u00a0official\u00a0said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is estimated that there are more than two lakh yoga instructors\nin the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
International Yoga Day will be celebrated on June 21 across the globe and the\u00a0AYUSH Ministry\u00a0has shortlisted five cities — Delhi, Shimla, Mysore,\u00a0Ahmedabad\u00a0and\u00a0Ranchi\u00a0— for holding the main function this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It will be the government’s first mega public event after\u00a0Narendra Modi\u00a0became\u00a0prime minister\u00a0for a second term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The names of the four cities have been sent to the\u00a0Prime Minister’s Office\u00a0(PMO) and it will finalise the venue of the main function for International Yoga Day,\u00a0official\u00a0sources said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the run-up to the event, a two-day Yoga Mahotsav is being organised in\u00a0Delhi\u00a0by the\u00a0Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga\u00a0and it started on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It will be attended by about 10,000 people, including yoga\nteachers, professionals, enthusiasts among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The aim is to build an atmosphere of yoga in the run-up to\nthe main event and sensitise the people about the June 21 function,” the\nofficial said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vice-Chairman\u00a0of NITI AYOG,\u00a0Rajeev Kumar\u00a0inaugurated the Yoga Mahotsav and stress on popularising the yogic culture through the medium of\u00a0social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Yoga teaches us to live with nature rather than conquering\nit, that makes ‘Vasudhaiv Kutubkam’ possible and we live with harmony and\npeace,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister of State\u00a0for AYUSH (Independent Charge) Shripad Yesso Naik dubbed International Yoga Day as the biggest mass movement for health and wellness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Natural and traditional medicine system is flourishing not only in\u00a0India\u00a0but across the globe,” he said and assured that the ministry is committed towards the research and development of Yoga, Ayurveda and other\u00a0natural and traditional medicinal systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\u00a0United Nations\u00a0declared June 21 as the\u00a0International Day of Yoga\u00a0in 2014 after Modi called for the day to be adopted as a global celebration of yoga, an ancient practice that began in\u00a0India\u00a0more than 5,000 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last year, the main event of the\u00a0International Day of Yoga\u00a0was held at the ground of Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, in which\u00a0Prime Minister\u00a0Modi participated. The first International Yoga Day celebration was organised at Rajpath in New\u00a0Delhi\u00a0on June 21, 2015, in which representatives of 191 countries took part.
