{"id":1879,"date":"2019-06-21T05:28:16","date_gmt":"2019-06-21T05:28:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=1879"},"modified":"2019-06-21T05:29:03","modified_gmt":"2019-06-21T05:29:03","slug":"bank-fraud-touched-unprecedented-rs-71500-crore-in-2018-19-rbi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/bank-fraud-touched-unprecedented-rs-71500-crore-in-2018-19-rbi\/","title":{"rendered":"Bank Fraud touched unprecedented Rs 71,500 Crore in 2018-19: RBI"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Reserve Bank of India has revealed that\nover&nbsp;<strong>6,800 cases<\/strong>&nbsp;of\nbank fraud involving an unprecedented&nbsp;<strong>\u20b971,500 crore<\/strong>&nbsp;were reported in\n2018-19.<br>\nThis is&nbsp;<strong>74% higher&nbsp;<\/strong>than the amount involved\nin 5,916 such cases reported in 2017-18.<br>\nAnti-corruption watchdog&nbsp;<strong>Central Vigilance Commission<\/strong>&nbsp;(CVC)\nmade an analysis and reported on top 100 frauds.<br>\nThe bank frauds were categorised and analysed\nfor 13 sectors, including gem and jewellery, manufacturing and industry,\nagriculture, media, aviation, service and project, discounting of cheques,\ntrading, information technology, export business, fixed deposits, demand loan\nand letter of comfort.<br>\nCentral Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and\nEnforcement Directorate (ED) are also probing big-ticket bank fraud cases.<br>\nIn 2018, CBI booked former Aircel promoter C\nSivasankaran, in connection with a Rs 600-crore loan fraud in the IDBI.<br>\nMD and CEO of Indian Bank, Kishor Kharat (who\nwas then MD and CEO of IDBI Bank) and his counterpart in Syndicate Bank, Melwyn\nRego (then deputy managing director in IDBI Bank) along with then\nChairman-cum-Managing Director of IDBI Bank M S Raghavan, have been named in\nthe latest FIR filed by the CBI.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Reserve Bank of India has revealed that over&nbsp;6,800 cases&nbsp;of bank fraud involving an unprecedented&nbsp;\u20b971,500 crore&nbsp;were reported in 2018-19.
