Prime Minister\nNarendra Modi’s<\/strong> new government\nhas shifted its focus to the allied issue of water after the country-wide\nsanitation drive with the Swachh Bharat Mission comes to an end on October 2,\n2019. The focus will is carried out by the Ministry of Jal\nShakti. <\/strong>

Objective:<\/strong>
\nThe scheme \u2018Nal se Jal\u2019 will be a component of\nthe government\u2019s Jal Jivan Mission. <\/strong>The Ministry plans to provide piped water\nconnections<\/strong> to every household in India by\n2024.<\/strong>
\nThe ministry will also look at conservation of\nsurface and groundwater<\/strong> and inter-linking\nrivers across the country<\/strong>. The idea of inter-linking rivers\nacross the country was proposed by the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari\nVajpayee in order to ease the irrigation and drinking water crisis.

Ministry of Jal Shakti:<\/strong>
\nThe Ministry is led by Rajasthan MP Gajendra\nSingh Shekhawat<\/strong> and Ram Lal Kataria<\/strong> will be the\nMinister of state. The ministry has been formed by merging the Ministry of Water\nResources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation<\/strong> along\nwith the Ministry\nof Drinking Water and Sanitation.  <\/strong>
\nThe reason for the merger is <\/strong>to\nbring all aspects of water management and regulation<\/strong> under one\ndepartment. <\/strong>The introduction of the Jal Shakti Ministry\nwas announced in the interim budget <\/strong>of the NDA\ngovernment.<\/strong>

NITI Aayog’s 2018 report:<\/strong>
\nA report by NITI Aayog reported<\/strong> that 600\nmillion Indians face high to extreme water stress and about 2 lakh people die\nevery year due to inadequate access to safe water. It also stressed that by\n2030, the country’s water demand will be projected to be twice the available\nsupply. This huge demand will imply severe water scarcit<\/strong>y for hundreds\nof millions of people which will eventually lead to a drop of nearly 60% loss\nin the country’s GDP.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
