Nigeria\u2019s Ambassador to the UN Tijjani\nMuhammad-Bande<\/strong>, elected as the next President<\/strong> of the 74th session UN General Assembly<\/strong>. He will succeed Maria Fernanda Espinosa<\/strong>. The next General Assembly session will commence in September 2019.<\/strong>

\nElected as per the rule:<\/strong>
\nUNGA rule <\/strong>states that the President of the 74th session of the General\nAssembly should be elected from among\nthe African States<\/strong>. In accordance with the\nrule, Muhammad-Bande has been elected.
\nHe assumes charge as UNGA prepares to celebrate\nthe 75th anniversary of\nits creation in 2020<\/strong>. India offered its\nsupport to Muhammad-Bande’s candidature.

\nFocus:<\/strong>
\nMuhammad-Bande, a former University professor,\nsaid that his presidency will focus on peace and security, poverty eradication,\nzero hunger, quality education, climate action.<\/strong>
\nThe 74th session of UNGA will focus on high-level\nmeetings which include the High-level Political Forum, the Secretary-General\u2019s\nClimate Summit, the high-level events on Universal Health Coverage, Financing\nfor Development and the commemoration of Beijing+25, providing major\nopportunities to promote the implementation of the goals and targets.
