{"id":1981,"date":"2019-06-21T06:06:31","date_gmt":"2019-06-21T06:06:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=1981"},"modified":"2019-07-07T04:40:57","modified_gmt":"2019-07-07T04:40:57","slug":"mumbai-ranked-first-among-403-global-cities-in-traffic-index-2018-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/mumbai-ranked-first-among-403-global-cities-in-traffic-index-2018-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Mumbai ranked first among 403 global cities in Traffic Index 2018 study"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An analysis of traffic congestion done in more&nbsp;<strong>400 cities<\/strong>&nbsp;across six continents has found that commuters in\nMumbai spent the most time on the road last year.<br>\nMumbai ranked first in the study,<strong>&nbsp;\u2018Traffic Index-2018\u2019<\/strong>, by location technology specialist TomTom, with a congestion\nlevel of 65 per cent<br>\nNew Delhi ranked fourth with a congestion of 58\nper cent.&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>Mumbai&nbsp;<\/strong>held on to the top rank for the second consecutive year, beat\nBogota (63 per cent), Lima (58 per cent) and Moscow (56 per cent).<br>\nOverall study covered 403 cities in 56 countries\nand defined congestion as the extra time added to road travel when traffic\ndoesn\u2019t flow freely.<br>\nThe best time in Mumbai without any congestion\nwould be 2 am and 5 am, when traffic flowed freely.&nbsp;<br>\nThe peak hours between 8 am and 10 am resulted\nin a congestion of 80 per cent, which shot up to 102 per cent between 5 pm and\n8 pm, when offices shut for the day.&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>August 21<\/strong>&nbsp;considered as the worst day to be on the road bringing\ntraffic movement to a complete standstill for the better part of the day\nleading to a congestion of 111 per cent.&nbsp;<br>\nThey suggested expanding the scope of the city\u2019s\npublic transport network in order to provide end-to-end connectivity and\nbusinesses to provide flexible working hours to employees to ease traffic\nmoving towards the suburbs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An analysis of traffic congestion done in more&nbsp;400 cities&nbsp;across six continents has found that commuters in Mumbai spent the most time on the road last year.
