India has notified a tax information exchange agreement (TIEA)\nwith the Marshall Islands, enabling bilateral sharing of banking information\nand allowing officials of one country to undertake tax examinations in the\nother, the finance ministry said on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The TIEA for exchange of information with respect to taxes was\nsigned on March 18, 2016 at Majuro, the Capital of the Marshall Islands. India\nnotified the TIEA on May 21, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe agreement enables exchange of information, including\nbanking and ownership information, between the two countries for tax purposes,\u201d\na finance ministry statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The TIEA is based on international standards of tax transparency\nand exchange of information and enables sharing of information on request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agreement also provides for representatives of one country\nto undertake tax examinations in the other country,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agreement will enhance mutual cooperation between India and\nthe Marshall Islands by providing an effective framework for exchange of\ninformation on tax matters which will help curb tax evasion and tax avoidance.\n\nThe Marshall Islands are a\nsprawling chain of volcanic islands and coral atolls in the Pacific Ocean,\nbetween Hawaii and the Philippines.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
