{"id":2044,"date":"2019-06-21T06:28:46","date_gmt":"2019-06-21T06:28:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=2044"},"modified":"2019-06-21T06:28:51","modified_gmt":"2019-06-21T06:28:51","slug":"bsf-officer-appointed-as-head-of-its-tekanpur-based-academy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/bsf-officer-appointed-as-head-of-its-tekanpur-based-academy\/","title":{"rendered":"BSF officer appointed as head of its Tekanpur-based academy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Border Security Force\n(BSF)&nbsp;<\/strong>appointed as the head of its Tekanpur-based\nacademy, the alma mater of the officers of the country&#8217;s largest\nfrontier-guarding force.<br>\nS S Chahar took over the charge of the academy&#8217;s\ndirector &#8212; an Additional Director General (ADG) rank &#8212; a senior official\nsaid.<br>\nHe is the 13th officer of the cadre to have been\nelevated to the second top post in the organisation in the history of over 50\nyears.<br>\nHe served on both the western and eastern\nfrontiers of the country.<br>\nBSF guards the important Indian borders with\nPakistan and Bangladesh respectively.<br>\nChahar, honours like the Vishisht Seva Medal\n(VSM) and police medals for meritorious and distinguished services under his\nbelt\/<br><br><strong>About\nBSF Academy<\/strong><br>\nThe BSF academy is located in Tekanpur in Madhya\nPradesh, near Gwalior.&nbsp;<br>\nIt is also home to institutes of national\nimportance like the tear smoke unit (the only factory in the country to produce\ntear smoke shells and similar ammunition) and the national training centre for\ndogs.<br>\nThe ADG rank is very rarely occupied by a BSF\nofficer as only one post is reserved for them and the rest four are taken by\nIndian Police Service (IPS) officers, who join the central force on deputation.<br>\nThe academy trains BSF officers who come to it\nafter clearing the UPSC exam and after graduating from it, they are posted as\nassistant commandants.<br>\nThe BSF has a strength of about 2.5 lakh\npersonnel and apart from rendering its primary task of guarding the Pakistan\nand Bangladesh borders, it also conducts anti-Naxal operations and assists the\nstate police units in undertaking law-and-order and counter-insurgency duties.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Border Security Force (BSF)&nbsp;appointed as the head of its Tekanpur-based academy, the alma mater of the officers of the country&#8217;s largest frontier-guarding force.
