The<strong>&nbsp;Muslim Women (Protection of\nRights on Marriage) Second Ordinance<\/strong>&nbsp;was promulgated on<strong>February 21, 2019.&nbsp;<\/strong><br>\nAn ordinance will<strong>&nbsp;lapse after six months<\/strong>&nbsp;of the\npromulgation. The bill should be passed by both sessions of Parliament within<strong>&nbsp;45 days after the first sitting\nof Parliament.<\/strong><br>\nThe Modi government\u2019s government in its first\ntenure has failed to get the Bill cleared in the Rajya Sabha as the Opposition\nopposed the criminality clause. Even after removing the clause the government\ncould not table the Bill, owing to continuous disruptions.<br><br><strong>Ordinance:<\/strong><br>\nThe ordinance is a decree or<strong>&nbsp;law promulgated by a state or\nnational government<\/strong><strong>without&nbsp;<\/strong>the\nconsent of the legislature.<br><strong>Article\n123&nbsp;<\/strong>of the Constitution of\nIndia grants the&nbsp;<strong>President<\/strong>&nbsp;certain\nlaw-making powers to promulgate ordinances when either of the two Houses of\nParliament is not in session.
