Indian Prime\nMinister Narendra Modi <\/strong>visited the Maldives on 8 June. PM’s visit to the Maldives reflects the\nimportance India attaches to its Neighbourhood\nFirst policy.  <\/strong>

\nHighlights:<\/strong>
\nDuring his visit, PM Narendra Modi and the\nPresident of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih signed six key agreements and\nsubstantive bilateral level talks.
\nMoU includes maritime and defence ties which are\na top priority and the radar system are expected to boost maritime security.
\nThe leaders jointly inaugurated a coastal\nsurveillance radar system and a composite training centre for the Maldives\ndefence forces.
\nLaunch of RuPay Card in the Maldives was\nwelcomed by PM Modi as it will give a boost to tourism in the island\nnation. 
\nThe six\nagreements include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. cooperation in the field of hydrography<\/strong><\/li>
  2. cooperation in the field of health <\/strong><\/li>
  3. customs capacity building<\/strong> between\nthe Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and Customs of India and the Maldives\nCustoms Service <\/li>
  4. the establishment of passenger and cargo services by sea<\/strong><\/li>
  5. training and Capacity Building Programme for Maldivian civil\nservants Maldives\nCivil Service Commission <\/strong>signed with India’s National Centre for Good Governance\n(NCGG) <\/strong>with the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public\nGrievances<\/strong><\/li>
  6. sharing white shipping information between the Indian Navy and the Maldives National\nDefence Force<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Previous\nagreements:<\/strong>
    \nIn March 2019, India and Maldives signed an $800-million Line of Credit\nAgreement<\/strong> with an aim to assist the Maldives in achieving\nsustainable social and economic development.
