India<\/strong> has\npartnered with Portugal<\/strong> to\nset up a national\nmaritime heritage museum<\/strong> at Lothal in Gujarat.<\/strong> The Indian Navy<\/strong> will\nbe the stakeholder <\/strong>in\nthe project and the Portuguese\nNavy<\/strong>will assist as they have experience in it by administering\nthe maritime museum in Lisbon,\nPortugal.<\/strong> India is to follow a similar model of the\nmaritime museum.

Implementation\nof the project:<\/strong>
\nIn March 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi <\/strong>laid\nthe foundation\nstone <\/strong>for the project and the Government of India<\/strong> has\nallocated a grant for building the maritime museum.
\nThe project will be implemented by the Ministry of Shipping <\/strong>through\nits Sagarmala\nprogramme<\/strong>. The Archaeological\nSurvey of India (ASI)<\/strong> along with the State government and\nother stakeholders is also involved in setting up the museum.

Partnership\nand plans:<\/strong>
\nThe initial discussion about the partnership was\nheld during the visit of Portuguese\nDefence Minister Jo\u00e3o Gomes Cravinho<\/strong> to India in April 2019.\nA Defence Ministry-led delegation will visit Portugal to study the existing museum.<\/strong>
