Ministry of Statistics and Programme\nImplementation (MoSPI)<\/strong> has proposed to set\nup a National Data Warehouse<\/strong> with an aim to leveraging big data analytical<\/strong> tools. This move is to further improve the quality of\nmacro-economic aggregates. MoSPI also plans to introduce a legislative\nframework so that the National\nStatistical Commission (NSC)<\/strong> can\nfunction with independence and give holistic guidance for improving the\nnational statistical system.

\nSignificance:<\/strong>
\nThe move also lends its support to the system reforms<\/strong> that are currently ongoing. It will also ensure theresponsiveness<\/strong> to the changing needs of society that are necessary.
\nThis proposed set up is necessary as there are\nincreasing demands on the statistical system for the production of relevant and\nquality statistics.
\n
\nNational Data Warehouse for\nmacro-economic aggregate:<\/strong>
\nThe Ministry also proposed to establish a National Data Warehouse on Official\nStatistics. <\/strong>Here, the technology will be leveraged for\nusing big data analytical tools for further improving the quality of\nmacro-economic aggregates.
\nMoSPI has been criticized in some sections for\nthe quality of macro-economic data.<\/strong>
\n
\nMerger of merger of CSO and\nNSSO:<\/strong>
\nRegarding this the government has recently\nmerged the Central Statistical\nOrganisation (CSO)<\/strong> and the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO)<\/strong> to streamline and strengthen the statistical system.<\/strong> The merger leveraged the strengths of the two\norganisations so that it can meet the increasing demands.
\nThe government use the statistical data to revise the GDP <\/strong>estimate would require concomitant changes in the sectoral\ndata flows and associated regulatory framework in the data source agencies to\nfacilitate the use of more macro modelling techniques.
