He was also the Chairman of the\nSangeet Natak Akademi, the National Academy of the Performing Arts from 1988 to\n1993. In the early 1990s, he hosted the Turning Point, a science magazine,\n&nbsp;on Doordarshan.<br>\nThe Jnanpith awardee&#8217;s plays have been\ntranslated into English and several Indian languages. His plays have been\ndirected by directors like Alyque Padamsee, Ebrahim Alkazi, Arvind Gaur, BV\nKaranth, Zafer Mohiuddin, Satyadev Dubey, Shyamanand Jalan, Amal Allana, Vijaya\nMehta and Prasanna.<br><br><strong>Awards:<\/strong><br>\nGirish Karnad was conferred with Padma Shri\naward in 1974 for contributions to theatre.
