\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Defence\nResearch and Development Organisation (DRDO) <\/strong>conducted the\nmaiden test of an indigenously\ndeveloped Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) <\/strong>along\nwith several technologies on 12 June. 
\nThe HSTDV missile was successfully launched from Dr Abdul Kalam Island off the\ncoast of Odisha. <\/strong>The missile was tracked by various radars, telemetry stations and electro\noptical tracking sensors<\/strong> through its course. It HSTDV\nbeing developed by DRDO with assistance from Israel and the UK and Russia.

Aim:<\/strong>
\nThe project aims to serve multiple military\nand civil purposes. It also intends to develop a hypersonic vehicle<\/strong> that will\nbe powered by a scram-jet\nengine<\/strong>. The HSTDV demonstrated the performance of a scram-jet\nengine at an altitude of 15\nkm to 20 km. <\/strong>

Scram-jet\ntechnology:<\/strong>
\nScram-jet technology is dual-use technology. <\/strong>It\nwill have multiple civilian applications when developed successfully. Scram-jet technology <\/strong>has\nthe ability to fly at speeds in excess of Mach\n6<\/strong> while using atmospheric\noxygen<\/strong> as oxidizer.<\/strong>
\n It will also be available for long-range\ncruise missiles. The combustion of fuel takes place in a chamber in the\nmissile at supersonic speeds, in scram-jet technology. It can be used for\nlaunching satellites at low cost.
\nTill now, India is using ram jet system. In ranm\njet system, the system collects the air\nit needs from the atmosphere<\/strong> during the flight at subsonic\nspeeds and the propellants\nburn<\/strong> in the combustion\nchamber.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
