The Government of India has declared 10th July to be celebrated every year as \u2018National Fish Farmers Day\u2019. The initiative of celebrating the Day was first taken by Mumbai\u2019s Central Institute of Fisheries Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Fish Farmers Day is celebrated on 10th July every year in remembrance of scientists Dr. K. H. Alikunhi and Dr. H.L. Chaudhury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They successfully demonstrated the technology of induced breeding (Hypophysation) in Indian Major Carps on 10th July, 1957 at the erstwhile \u2018Pond Culture Division\u2019 of CIFRI at Cuttack, Odisha (presently Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, CIFA, Bhubaneswar).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the occasion, Ministry of Fisheries announced that NFDB in collaboration with the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) will establish \u201cFish Cryobanks\u201d in different parts of the country to facilitate all time availability of \u2018fish sperms\u2019 of desired species to fish farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This would be the first time in the world when \u201cFish Cryobank\u201d will be established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cCryomilt\u201d technology developed by the NBFGR in support with NFDB may be helpful in establishment of \u201cFish Cryobanks\u201d, which will provide good quality of fish sperms in hatcheries at any time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With an investment of Rs 20050 crore, the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) was launched in May 2020. Through the scheme, responsible and sustainable development of the fisheries sector will be aimed, which will further help in creating an AtmaNirbhar Bharat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the scheme, 55 lakh (5.5 million) jobs are expected to be created over the next 5 years as the target has been set for an additional 7 million (70 lakh) tonnes of fish production per year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
