This year\u2019s\nstart of April 30 is second only to 2016, when a very unusual weather pattern\ncaused an early start to the melting season in mid-April.&nbsp;<br>\nNumber three on the list is<strong>&nbsp;May 2, 2010<\/strong>,\nwhen a similar weather pattern triggered an early melting onset closely\nfollowed by&nbsp;<strong>May 7\nin 2017.<\/strong>&nbsp;The top four have all occurred within the last 10\nyears.&nbsp;<br><br><strong>Reason\nfor Melting:<\/strong><br>\nThe researchers found that the Greenland melting\nevent was due to an atmospheric circulation in the<strong>Arctic and North Atlantic.<\/strong>&nbsp;The\nsudden spike in melting can be compared to some spikes seen&nbsp;<strong>seven years ago.<\/strong>&nbsp;Melting\noff early in the season leads to further ice loss later in the season.
