\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lucknow\nDevelopment Authority (LDA)<\/strong> is constructing a road using plastic waste<\/strong> for\nthe first time ever. The road is constructed from Gomti Nagar Police Station to Indian\nInstitute of Management (IIM) <\/strong>under a pilot project by LDA\nin Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The LDA has followed guidelines of the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI)<\/strong> in\nroad construction.
\nThe research showed mixing plastic waste\nincreases the durability of the roads by 40-50%.<\/strong> These roads will be more\ndurable and will stay in good condition for a longer time. Around 8-10% of\nplastic waste is being mixed in coal tar. 
\nThe initiative was inspired after the success of\nroads in many foreign countries. In India too, many civic bodies have started\nroad construct using plastic waste in an environmental-friendly experiment. The\nLDA plans to conduct more research on this road experiment in the next two\nyears to know if there can be some improvement.

Plastic\nroads:<\/strong>
\nThe implementation of plastics in roads has\nopened a new option\nfor recycling post consumer plastics<\/strong>. The US, the UK, Australia,\nIndonesia, India <\/strong>and many other countries have used\ntechnology which can incorporate plastic waste into an asphalt mix.<\/strong> Plastic\ncomposite roads, however, have existed and demonstrate characteristics superior\nto regular asphalt concrete roads; specifically, they show better wear\nresistance. 

Central\nRoad Research Institute (CRRI):<\/strong>
\nCRRI was established in 1952. The CRRI is\nlocated in New Delhi. It is a constituent laboratory of India’s Council of\nScientific and Industrial Research.  It conducts research and development\nin the areas of design, construction, maintenance and management of roads and\nairport runways.
