India\u2019s domestic air passenger traffic grew\nabout 3%\nyear-on-year during May<\/strong>. It reversed a 4.5% fall <\/strong>the\nsector witnessed in April as a result of the grounding of cash-strapped Jet Airways Ltd., <\/strong>India\nthat led to severe capacity crunch in the sector.
\nAccording to data from Directorate General of Civil Aviation\n(DGCA)<\/strong> said that the domestic carriers carried a total\nof 1.22 crore<\/strong> passengers\nin May compared with 1.19 crore passengers carried by various airlines during\nthe corresponding period a year ago.

\nIndiGo\nairline:<\/strong>
\nDuring May, InterGlobe Aviation Ltd-promoted IndiGo airline<\/strong> clocked\nin a 49% market\nshare<\/strong>. It carried 59.80\nlakh domestic passengers<\/strong>. In April, the airline had 49.9% market share,<\/strong> its\nhighest ever since inception as a schedule carrier in 2006, as it flew a\nrecord 54.81 lakh<\/strong> passengers\nduring the month.

\nSpice\nJet and Air India:<\/strong>
\nDuring May, SpiceJet <\/strong>displaced Air India as\nthe second largest\ndomestic carrier.<\/strong> SpiceJet, which carried 18.03 lakh passengers, <\/strong>accounted\nfor 14.8% of domestic market share, while Air\nIndia<\/strong> carried 16.53\nlakh passengers<\/strong>, with a 13.5% <\/strong>of domestic market share.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
