{"id":2604,"date":"2019-06-22T05:44:49","date_gmt":"2019-06-22T05:44:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=2604"},"modified":"2019-07-07T06:34:27","modified_gmt":"2019-07-07T06:34:27","slug":"government-to-set-up-51-incubators-for-aspiring-entrepreneurs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/government-to-set-up-51-incubators-for-aspiring-entrepreneurs\/","title":{"rendered":"Government to set up 51 incubators for aspiring entrepreneurs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>To support startups and entrepreneurs working in the information and\ncommunications technology (ICT) space, the government of India is planning to\nset up of 51 new startup incubators across India as part of its Technology\nIncubation and Development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE) 2.0 scheme, Ministry of\nElectronics and Information Technology (MeitY) tweeted on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cProposals for incubation centres will be invited from organisations of\nhigher learning and R&amp;D organisations across India- having incubation\nfacilities,\u201d the ministry tweeted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Initially launched in 2008, the TIDE scheme was revised in 2017, hence TIDE 2.0. The scheme aims to assist institutions of higher learning to strengthen their Technology Incubation Centers and enable young entrepreneurs to initiate technology startup companies for commercial exploitation of technologies developed by them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The selection of upcoming 51 incubators are categorized in to three groups \u2014\nGroup 1 Centre (G1C), Group 2 Centre (G2C), and Group 3 Centre (G3C).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While G1C would have incubators offering \u201cdeep support\u201d to startups\nincluding \u201cmentoring, capacity building, investment and post-investment\nadvisory\u201d, G2C incubators would support \u201caspiring entrepreneurs and students\u201d\nto launch their startups. G3C incubators would have to promote entrepreneurship\nin \u201cunexplored regions\u201d, as per its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In prerequisite, G1C, G2C and G3C should have 6, 25, and 20 incubations\ncentres respectively in order to qualify. G1C should have 3 years and G2C\nshould have 2 years of experience in offering incubation services along with\ntie-ups with industry bodies. G3C incubators should have at least an incubator\nor entrepreneurship cell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tide 2.0 would offer financial and technical support to incubators\nsupporting ICT startups that are involving usage of deep technologies including\nartificial intelligence, blockchain, robotics, and internet of things in\n\u201cpre-identified areas of societal relevance,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 270 incubators and accelerators, which are managed by academic\nbodies, private players, government, and corporate, existed in the country till\nNovember last year. Over 70 incubators in India have been given financial\nsupport by respective state governments in the past two years, Department for\nPromotion of Industry and Internal Trade had said in last year\u2019s States\u2019\nStartup Ranking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, there are 27 TIDE centres under the TIDE scheme are being supported\nat academic institutions across India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TIDE Incubation Centers provide a gamut of services to new enterprises and\nfacilitate linkages congenial for their survival and growth. The centres\nnetwork with Angel Investors and Venture Capitalists who provide mentoring and\nfinancial support to the startups and enable tenant companies to mature over a\nperiod of 2-3 years and
