{"id":2731,"date":"2019-06-24T01:34:04","date_gmt":"2019-06-24T01:34:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=2731"},"modified":"2019-06-24T01:34:05","modified_gmt":"2019-06-24T01:34:05","slug":"india-has-the-highest-data-usage-per-smartphone-in-the-world-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/india-has-the-highest-data-usage-per-smartphone-in-the-world-report\/","title":{"rendered":"India has the highest data usage per smartphone in the World: Report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>India has the highest average data usage per smartphone,\nreaching 9.8 GB per month at the end of 2018, according to a new study by\nSwedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report, released on\nWednesday, also forecasts that this figure is likely to double to 18 GB per\nmonth per smartphone by 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIncreased numbers of LTE\nsubscriptions, attractive data plans being offered by service providers, and\nyoung people\u2019s changing video viewing habits have driven monthly usage growth,\u201d\nNitin Bansal, head of Ericsson India and head of network solutions, southeast\nAsia, Oceania and India, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, mobile data traffic\nper smartphone per month stood at 7 GB for North America, 3.1 GB for Latin\nAmerica, 6.7 GB for Western Europe, 4.5 GB for Central and Eastern Europe, 3 GB\nfor Middle East and Africa, 7.1 GB for northeast Asia and 3.6 GB for southeast\nAsia and Oceania region. \u201cMobile video traffic is fuelling the total data\ntraffic as users are spending more time streaming and sharing video. This is\nexpected to continue, as video is embedded in all types of online content\u2026 we\nsee monthly data usage per smartphone increasing from 9.8 GB in 2018 to 18 GB\nby 2024 [in India], growing at 11% CAGR,\u201d Mr. Bansal added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018Ericsson Mobility Report\u2019 added that total smartphone\nsubscriptions in the region is likely to reach 1.1 billion by 2024, growing at\n11% CAGR, while the total mobile broadband subscriptions in India are expected\nto grow from about 610 million in 2018 to 1.25 billion in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Bansal said that LTE\nwould remain the most dominant access technology in the region up to 2024, even\nas 5G subscriptions are expected to grow during this period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, according to\nEricsson, Indian smartphone users are willing to pay more than 66% premium for\n5G services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn fact, more than half of\nsmartphone users in India expect their own provider to switch to 5G or will\nwait for a maximum of six months before moving to another provider that does,\u201d\nMr. Bansal said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>North East Asia comes second with 7.1GB per month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>India has the highest average data usage per smartphone, reaching 9.8 GB per month at the end of 2018, according to a new study by Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson.
