According to the index, Uttar Pradesh is the worst when it\ncomes to overall health performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ranking was done under three categories &#8212; larger states, smaller states\nand Union territories (UTs) &#8212; to ensure comparison among similar entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gujarat, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh stood at fourth, fifth and sixth spots,\naccording to the report, titled <strong>&#8220;Healthy States, Progressive\nIndia: Report on Rank of States and UTs&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra have emerged as the top ranking\nstates based on historical performance across health indicators while Haryana,\nRajasthan and Jharkhand top the index based on incremental performance in the\nsecond edition of health index launched by the government think tank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The health index is a composite measure of states and union territories\nbased on 23 health indicators with major weightage to outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kerala, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu had ranked on top in terms of overall\nperformance, while Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttar Pradesh were the top\nthree ranking states in terms of annual incremental performance in the first\nranking of states on health parameters which was published in February 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second edition of the report focuses on measuring the overall\nperformance and incremental improvement over a two-year period &#8212; 2016-17 and\n2017-18 &#8212; in the states and UTs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the press conference, chaired by Amit Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog highlighted\nthat state&#8217;s ranking would impact the budget they get from the Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Incremental performance:<\/strong><br>\nIn terms of incremental performances, <strong>Haryana, Rajasthan, and\nJharkhand <\/strong>made the maximum improvement in terms of health among\nlarger states.<br>\n<strong>Smaller states:<\/strong><br>\nAmong the smaller states, <strong>Mizoram ranked first<\/strong>\nin <strong>overall performance<\/strong>, while <strong>Tripura and Manipur<\/strong> were top\ntwo states in terms of <strong>incremental performance.<\/strong><br>\n<strong>Union Territories:<\/strong><br>\nAmong the<strong> Union Territories, Chandigarh<\/strong>\nranked <strong>first <\/strong>in overall performance,\nwhile<strong> Dadra and Nagar Haveli <\/strong>made\nthe most improvement.&nbsp;<br>\n<br>\n<strong>Report prepared by:<\/strong><br>\nThe report was prepared NITI Aayog in collaboration with the <strong>Ministry of Health and Family Welfare<\/strong>\nwith technical assistance from the <strong>World Bank.<\/strong><br>\n<br>\n<strong>Healthy States Progressive India:<\/strong><br>\nNITI Aayog&#8217;s report, titled<strong> &#8216;Healthy States Progressive\nIndia&#8217;<\/strong>, ranked states and Union Territories (UTs) based on the\nHealth Index. The evaluation was based on 23 indicators that covers the key\naspects of health sector performance.&nbsp;<br>\nThe first edition of the report of this kind was<strong>\nreleased in 2018<\/strong>.
