{"id":2856,"date":"2019-06-28T06:07:32","date_gmt":"2019-06-28T06:07:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=2856"},"modified":"2019-07-12T09:19:12","modified_gmt":"2019-07-12T09:19:12","slug":"russia-extends-western-food-embargo-to-end-of-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/russia-extends-western-food-embargo-to-end-of-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia extends Western food embargo to end of 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended a ban by\nMoscow on food product imports from the United States, the European Union and\nits allies until the end of 2020, continuing its retaliation against the\nsanctions imposed on Russia over Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monday, the Russian leader signed a decree, a copy of\nwhich was posted on the official portal of legal information, extending an\nembargo on Western produce, dairy, meat and most other foods until December 31,\n2020. The new retaliatory measures have already entered into force, the report\nadded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Putin signed an additional document, which changes the\nnorms of the original decree on counter-sanctions dated August 6, 2014, TASS\nfurther said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The retaliatory move is \u201cto extend from January 1 to\nDecember 31, 2020 the operation of certain special economic measures stipulated\nby the presidential decree of August 6, 2014,\u201d the document read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some five years ago, Moscow banned imports of certain\nagricultural products, raw materials and foodstuffs from Western countries that\nslapped Russia with sanctions. They include the US, the EU, Canada, Australia,\nNorway, Iceland, Albania, Montenegro, Liechtenstein, and Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The punitive embargoes were put in place in response to the US and the EU economic sanctions over Moscow\u2019s alleged role in reunification of the Crimea with Russia and its purported involvement in the military conflict in eastern Ukraine, allegations strongly rejected by Russia.
