Indian Olympic Association president Narinder Batra was elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Batra was elected to the prestigious seat during the IOC\nSession here. He secured 58 votes out of 62 while four voted against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His election is linked to his function in a National Olympic\nCommittee — that is president of IOA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Batra now has a rare distinction of becoming a member of the\nIOC, while heading a National Olympic Committee as well as an international\nfederation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is the first Indian to have this distinction. He has\nalready become the first Indian to head an international federation of an\nOlympic sport — that of FIH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the election of Batra, the number of Indians who are\ncurrently active members of IOC will rise to two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani was elected as\nan individual member of the IOC in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is the first Indian woman to be elected to the\nprestigious seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Former IOA Secretary General Randhir Singh served as a\nmember of the IOC from 2001 to 2014 and has been made an honorary member since\nthen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
